“Silent Thunder” are stories from Volker Goetze’s life told in improvisational languages in African, Jazz, Cuban and European roots.

In the summer of 2013 Volker Goetze and Christian Torkewitz recorded the album with Jim Anderson "live" in just four hours in the legendary Avatar studio in New York. Christian and I worked on the pieces over months and were therefore very well prepared. The great thing about Avatar Studio and working with Grammy Award Winning sound magician Jim Anderson was the immediate "feel good” factor. The sound was great and we could only concentrate on our music. Based on this, I always advise younger musicians to record in the best studios and work with the most experienced sound engineers and, above all, to prepare very well. A friend Karl-Heinz Krauskopf supported this album financially.
    Biography Volker Goetze

Artist, composer and trumpeter Volker Goetze arrived in New York 18 years ago. His contribution to the art world and city are multifaced. He recently produced New York City's first Sound Sculpture Walk (Sonic Gates), toured the globe for over 12 years with his transcultural Afican-Harp and trumpet duo with griot and kora virtuoso Ablaye Cissoko, released multiple jazz albums including large ensembles and orchestral while also creating feature documentaries - uplifting and inspiring communities and fans.

In his own words: "With each new composition, film or project, I expand my vocabulary and skill set as an artist: I search for ways to express my vision by stretching musical boundaries, expanding into community art and social art and creating my own set of rules. I’ve never been an artist who neatly fits into a box or a clearly defined category of music or film. Looking back, I now realize that simply being an international performing artist, composer, or filmmaker is not satisfying to me. My motivation for everything I do is to give back to the community and touch people through my work in unforeseen ways – ways I cannot predict as the need for a particular work comes to me as a task challenging me, my ideas and knowledge."

about

“Passing” is dedicated to my father, who died prematurely in my teenage years in 1986. I've seen a three-year battle with cancer that may be due to asbestos. Several professors at a university of applied sciences died very quickly and the building was demolished as hazardous waste. Jazz concerts, film reviews of Kurosawa films in the Japanese cultural institute, playing the trumpet and painting filled my grief. Later in life my father's voice and wisdom was missing and I was faced with the task of answering the questions of death for myself. My father stepped into another world. The composition harmoniously releases tensions and one reaches infinite peace.
